General Update - March
Hi everyone that's following Lineon!
So, it's been a while since I shared anything about the project. The main thing is, it's coming along, albeit more slowly than I thought when I released the 0.5 version. The main mechanics are under the roof, but I'm redesigning the whole story aspect and how the rules are presented from the ground up, which is quite tedious. This kind of work always feels like designing a failure, until it finally clicks, and I'm afraid I'm still far away from the finished first draft. But I felt the same way while making the 0.5 version and then, when I overcame the big hurdle of the first chapter, it came together in under a week. I redesigned the first chapter over 10 times since I started working on the project. I think it's very important how the reader/player is introduced into the Lineon world.
Here is the sneak peak of how the story is now presented:
Something didn't sit right with me with the storytelling of Lineon for this whole time. I felt a disconnect between the prose and the puzzles themselves. So I've been searching for the right feel and now I think I finally found it. I still have to lock it in with all the details, but I think this is the right way: Lineon presents a world so microscopic there's not much room for anything other than dots and lines. So I won't try to add anything human-like to the story anymore - no more skyscrapers, no more trees and rain, no more normal bodies even, with legs and arms and heads. I will instead try to find the whole world in the dots and lines.
But, as you might have sensed from my update, I've been a bit frustrated with the progression of Lineon. It feels like work lately instead of flowing with the creative juice like before. But I'm determined to finish it in the best way possible!
About a month ago, when I was really frustrated, I channeled my frustration into another project: an 18-card game for 1-2 players. It's currently called All Is Bomb, but I will probably rename it (EEE: Everything Explodes Eventually is another contender). I've already playtested it quite a bit with my friends and I will probably release it before Lineon, since it's smaller. I'll keep you updated!
So, all in all thanks for all the support for now!
Hope all is good and you're safe in these trying times.
